For example, I am a 19 year old college student, my last retail part time job was in october of last year, so it's about to be a year this october since I've been out of work, I have just been focusing on school, and enjoying family time, but now I am ready to get another part time job just for black friday season or longer, what kind of excuse can I use, if during an interview the employer asks me why I have been out of work for so long ??

The VERY BEST excuse is that "I wanted to focus on school". Seriously, nobody is ever going to blame you for prioritizing your education over temporary jobs.

I wouldn't worry too much because you are a student. If someone is in school, it is highly unlikely that a potential employer would question you on why you haven't worked. If someone does ask you, but I doubt it, simply say you have been concentrating on your school work but now you're applying for the seasonal Christmas work (or whatever). No one will fault you for being in school.

At 19, focusing on your studies is a valid excuse.

Tell them you were concentrating on your school work. It's always best to tell the truth ... then you don't have to make a point of remembering it.

don't make excuses, just tell the truth. it's more believable/respectable
