Okay so I'm starting my first bartending job today and i'm extremely nervous.... What do I do when I first walk in? also I'm kind of a shy girl I need some tips on how to be outgoing and know what to say to people... I've always wanted to bartend because it seems like a fun job and the bar i'm working at gets pretty busy, the only bartending experience i have is bartending school. i've never actually worked in a real bar. any tips or advice would help me a lot thank you so much! (:

stay calm - once the barflys know that they can 'get' you they won't stop; don't get testy or any attitude with a customer either.

don't ignore your barbacks - they'll be your life saver when you need it so don't ignore or disrespect those that are 'lower in station' to you.

don't disrespect the waiters - they are a bunch of pansy bitches who'll cheat you if they can but stay professional start to finish.

'cleanliness is godliness' - if you're not serving up alcohol then you need to be cleaning and policing your space; if you're sitting and resting behind the bar then you are not doing something you should be doing.

1. Do what your boss tells you to do.

2. If you are shy, I can't understand why you want to work behind a bar - it is a job for outgoing cheerful types who are happy talking to complete strangers and don't mind being flirted with every evening.

It always is hard the first time, but be confident. Remember everything you have to do and even if you mess up just follow the rules to not get fired. It gets easier as it goes.
