I am new to the world of working and stuff. I just got my first full time job at a hotel and they mention this PTO i can use. My question is how di i get PTO or do i get it automatically (10 days) every year or do i have to work hard for it? Like do i work for 160hrs or something like that to get? I searched google and couldn't find a deep explanation about. Can someone here spend some time to explain it to me deeply? I would really appreciate it.

Paid Time Off (PTO) is the minimum amount of paid leave you are entitled to per year. There aren't usually any conditions imposed on it. It's impossible for us to tell you exactly what that amount is for you, since it depends on your employer and your terms of employment. You need to find this out yourself:

1) Look at your contract of employment.

2) If you don't understand your contract of employment, speak to your HR manager or line manager.

3) If you don't get an acceptable answer from either of them, speak to your trade union rep.

You accumulate hours of PTO over a period of time. You get a few hours every month you work there. The longer you are there, the more PTO hours you get.

Check the company intranet for HR policy. Check your pay stub and it will show how many hours of vacation and PTO you accumulate over each month.

you get paid for the days you take off (all 10).
