My boyfriend is a mail carrier and I applied too. I passed the computer test with a high score and was offered a job 2 months later. I have an appointment for the pre employment processing but my boyfriend says I'm wasting my time and doubts I can do the job. He says I should apply for a clerk position instead. I think I'd enjoy the job because i hate working indoors and I also enjoy working independently on my own... I'm 5'4 not too short and I'm petite. I can imagine a small town might be easy but we live in California in a crowded city lots of housing and business. Is my bf right or could a small girl be capable of doing the job?

You are fine, the regulation height of mailboxes is 42 inches high. I have seen many carrier that is shorter. I have seen some use a stroller specially designed to carry mail so they don't have to carry the load. There is no height requirement for that position but physical demand. Just show them you can do it and you'll be fine.

I worked with a woman who left our place of employment to deliver the mail for the USPS - she is 5'2" or 5'3" so I don't see that height is an issue. I've had mail carriers who were also very slightly built females. No reason why you can't do the job. So go for it.

5' 4" is not petite, that's average height for a woman. If you're strong and don't get overwhelmed easily you could manage it.
