lol I think everyone has this problem, I work in an EMT office from 8-430. This office has the WORST language I have ever heard from any other office. Every other word is a cuss word, The ones that smoke go out to smoke at least once ever 20 minutes, the office manager's daughter works here but she spends more time going around NOT doing any work, and there could be several s+x harassment charges just in one day.... It doesn't bother me but it just makes me say how unprofessional my office is.. oh well. Kind of funny! As for the personal calls thing, I'm sure you have made or received just a few personal calls, haven't you?? I know I have.

You may not think that it's right, but unless you factor in everything else you're only making judgments about something that may or may not matter in the big scheme of things.

Do these people also work hard while they're working? Is their productivity better because they make outside contacts to friends and family? Is a more flexible lunch hour making them a happier employee?

I work in an office where we have a lot of flexibility with regard to lunch, going to the gym, mid-day appointments, personal calls, etc. We are a highly productive group of people who work well together as a team.

Think about being more of a team player rather than alienating yourself further from your co-workers.

I work as a supervisor and this is certainly something that should be addressed. If you were my employee I would want you to bring this concern to me. By the way there are laws regarding this and they cannot state were the information came from and if the employee does find out retaliatory behavior is also illegal. This applies also if your supervisor is one of the offenders. Then you should take it to their supervisor. I am certain you are a hard working, honest person or you would not have posted this and you should be able to expect that others do the same. Companies do not like wasting their money paying someone for not working. Also, if you feel your concerns are not being heard you should continue up the ladder of authority until someone listens. In most companies this is not an issue but, if it is in yours certainly those in upper management will want to know. Hope this helps.

This is happening to me right now. I have a supervisor who a few of us had mentioned to her to take a casual walk around the office when everyone is supposed to be off their lunch to see who was actually working and not even there. It is frustrating because you think at the professional level people would know that they need to work and not take advantage. I don't find it hard to fit in everything I want to do on my lunch and on breaks. Hope this helps!!

are you their supervisor?

if not, then sorry to say, but mind your own business.

i used to manage a lot of people and frankly, it's not easy keeping track of everyone, but if the job got done then i wasn't really that worried about the nit picky things people did.

one thing i didn't appreciate, though, was people tattling on other people.

you mind what you are doing and what your job is and let other people hang themselves out to dry. eventually, it will catch up to them, and if it doesn't then kudos to them for figuring out a way to buck the system and get away with it!

i know i may take an extra 15 on my lunch if i know my boss won't be there when i get back. my reason...b/c that gives me 15 more minutes to visit with my son at his daycare. you see, i go to visit him almost every day at my lunch hour so it doesn't feel like his daycare is totally raising him.

basically, just put on your big girl pants and let it go.

become a dry snitch - I love this because the woker who invest time in the company is often watch more than those who are taking anvantage of company time, Say very loudly why "Sam is it 2 o'clock so soon I didn't see you get up from your chair for your second lunch! and laugh hysterically"

Or "Alisa boyfriend driving you crazy I see he kept you on the phoen again today for another 4 hours"

Unfortunately it is that way everywhere. If it is causing more work for you then I would approach your supervisor or human resources dept. about it. But if its not affecting your job, then I would let it go. The people who are doing this would see you as a "nark" and then the office gossip and crap would begin.

Good luck.

Everyone wants break and even longer break.

There is really nothing much you can do.

However, you can be benifit by working silently because when your boss knows about them, they will probably have a minus impression while you may have bonuses for your hardwork compare to them.

How does this effect you job? Are you the responsible party for these individuals? If not not stop worrying about what THEY are doing and reapply the effort you are spending on Yahoo!Answers and being nosy into your own job and you will be recognized for your dedication and discipline.
