A friend of mine just started working at ameriprise as a financhial adviser and called me to schedule a brainstoring lunch. There is going to be a supervisor there too. On the phone it sounded like we were going to be brainstorming about what would be a good way to generate leads for ameriprise services? Sound a little strange, but also seeing about if they had a job for me?

I was just wondering if anyone knew what this was about or what to expect. Normally my friend is real relaxed and at ease, but in the phone call sounded stresses and official like he was givnig a pitch.

Ameriprise (formerly American Express) uses lunch as a prospecting tool.

Therefore, your lunch is Brainstorming on how you may need their services and/or WHOM he/she should invite to future lunches to attract clients.

Its a prospecting tool.

HOWEVER,

Since this is friend and you expressed some interest in finding out about it, why not take up on the free lunch!

and

Re: Your friends stress. Boss could have the new recruits working the phones to get appointments for these lunches because it takes x number of lunches to equal x number of appointments and x number of appointments to generate x number of clients.

He was giving you a pitch. Ameriprise is similar to a pyramid scheme. Check it out on the Internet, you can check the rip-off report; there are plenty of reports of questionable practices in there. As for the financial side of things, you would need to read some of the complaints and make your own decision from there.

I received a phone call from them about a month ago regarding a job. I checked on the Internet before I did anything. (As I didn't apply for a job with them.) Saw what I needed to see and then made sure that my resume is no longer open for all to see on the career builder, hot jobs and monster web sites.

Good Luck with your choice.

Ameriprise was formerly known as American Express Financial Advisors. It is an organization that tries to create retirement plans for their clients.
