Is my height and physical attractiveness preventing me from getting a job?

I feel like I'm not getting interviews/jobs because of my physical appearance.

Specifically I am applying for jobs that interact with the public, such as barista, retail clerk, grocery stores, waiters, front desk, etc.

I'm a 20 year old guy, 5'7" and in average shape. I keep my hair short and neat, and dress appropriate for interviews, etc.

I am a college student and have about 10 months of customer service experience. So I know that I am not applying for jobs "out of my league." I am applying for jobs that are reasonable and normal for students.

I feel like that I am perceived as unattractive as I am a bit shorter than the ideal guy. I am also not the most attractive individual. Not ugly, but not model material. I am quite average.

Mainly I feel that my height is the biggest killer.

I mean, I'm not trying to get a job at Abercrombie or anything. Just a regular waiter, hotel job, etc.

I'm a psychology major and have read about how looking good gives you an edge in getting a job...

But what do you all think? Do you think I am too short for these jobs?

It's a highly competitive world out there. It's not enough to have ten months of CSR experience, you need to show enthusiasm for the job, flexibility on scheduling, that you are going to be doing an excellent job of selling and making money for the company, and represent the company in a positive way. As a psych major, you already know that rejection will fuel self-doubt and make you less confident with each successive interview. You need to find a way to not let that happen. You sound shy. Shy people often do not do that well in CSR work ,esp. as pertains to selling. Perhaps it is a line of work that is not really suited to you, and you might do better in a call center environment?

I'm 20 years old, 6'6'' and quite slim. I wouldn't say I'm the best looking guy but I do have height on my side. However, last week I've been on a job interview that doesn't even require to see people and I didn't get it. My advice is to keep trying and work on some skill of yours to make it your selling point. Look for something specific and prepare.

It shouldn't be a problem height or these companies could get themselves sacked.
