My boss recently asked me to take on more tasks and yet it wasn't in my job description, how do I handle this?

My boss recently asked me to take on another project/program which wasn't in my job description. The thing is, there is no raise to go with it and I am already working for minimum wage and have too much responsibility. How much credibility does the job description have? How should I handle this?

Welcome to the world of work. Just do it if you want to continue to work there. See if you get a raise or a promotion within the next 6 months or year. If not then find another job.

A job description is usually a basic guideline that can be adjusted according to your department's needs. It's possible that your boss is testing you to see how you adapt to change. Just do your best and there may be a nice raise in store at your next review.

I think your question contains the answer. The prior person did it and was paid a pretty penny. If you are always wanting something for something then you might be considered difficult. If you willingly take on responsibility and offer assistance then promotions and money will generally find you.
