Question:
Is it normal to apply to lots of jobs and never hear back from any of them?

I'm currently employed and looking for a second job to make some extra cash but I've applied to lots of jobs and no one is calling me. Am I doing something wrong or is this normal. I have a good resume and a good work history. The jobs I'm applying for aren't even good jobs. They are entry level jobs at stores and restaurants. I thought jobs like that were easy to get. The job I currently have just called me the day after I applied and then hired my that day. I don't understand why no one is calling me back now. So I just started applying everywhere. I'm applying to 3 jobs a day. What am I doing wrong?

Pick up the phone and call one of them. Tell them you are checking on your resume. Make them tell you no. If they don’t give you an answer or say something along the lines of we are reviewing it, call back once a week.

Unfortunately it is very common for many companies not to have the manners to respond. However, if you are applying for entry level jobs they are probably being inundated with applications. Make a call and follow them up.

Joshua 24:15 "And if it seems evil to you to serve the Lord, choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”

Normal yes

Common no

In 55 years of applying for jobs only 1 never contacted me, but according to my kids and grandkids its much more normal and common then it used to be

Yes it is a common experience, and doesn't prove you are doing something wrong. Have you tried Starbucks and Target? I mention those because I've known people who had those as 2nd jobs, so maybe they are more willing to work with you on your schedule.

Yes it is. Unemployed or not, you can send in a dozen resumes a day and not hear back from any of the jobs you applied to.

Entry level jobs at stores and restaurants can be hard to get because there's lots of competition for them.

You're all ready employed. If you're full time then you're not going to have a lot of availability for these places, which is what they often look for.

It happened back in 2014. And in 2008.

Yes, that is normal.

What you are doing wrong is applying to entry level jobs at stores and restaurants. Jobs like that are hard to get, because nearly anyone can do them, so there are many qualified applicants. Also, many of them won't hire someone who has just wants a "second job" because the store or restaurant wants someone who will work whenever the store or restaurant wants, which you can't do if you have another job.

You should be applying for better jobs that can work around your schedule but have some requirements that most workers can't meet and you can.

Are the jobs vacant at the time of paying, cos if not, you're probably placed in a queue and you have to wait your turn. I'm just guessing here.
