I just put subs I'm my car this weekend and tonight as I was leaving (with the subs on) my boss threatened to suspend me for a week if he ever heard them around there again. Can he legally do that?

The others pretty much have it right.

My personal thought is: I've often thought it was too bad that city ordinance prohibits the discharge of firearms within the city limits. I'm a firm believer in the fact that vibrating subs sound so much better after a few .357 magnums have passed through them! I would prefer to watch the radio explode as a round passed through it in the dash, but the engine firewall might cause a ricochet and as much as the gene pool would benefit from it, society frowns on that activity as a punishment for stupidity. (If that was allowed, there wouldn't be a politician standing!)

Of course if you drive through the wrong neighborhood and annoy the wrong people, they might not have my respect for the laws! Is that the "suspension" you were asking about?

Don't know what company you work for or what that companies policies may be but if you are on the clock you can probably suffer consequences via your boss.

Beyond that, show some common sense and class and wait until you are off company property and down the freaking block before you crank your sound system with noise no one wants to hear.

Loud subs are as gay as the loud pipes saves lives motorcycle crowd. Attention whores need attention. Look at it this way - when you get fired for being a douche, you can cruise all day long dropping the beat like it's hot.

He can suspend you for ANY reason or for no reason at all...

He can fire you even if he sees/hears you driving your sh!tty fart can across town outside regular work hours, because he does not want that sort of juvenile behavior associated with the business he is trying to manage...

Grow up. It'll be good for your hearing.

Yes, he can. It's his property and thumping bass annoys most people, especially customers. Besides that, almost all towns have noise ordinances so the law is on his side. Turn it down. And be sure to avoid my neighborhood with them turned up or you might get a brick through the windshield.

If you are on company property, yes your boss probably can.

There are usually different levels of discipline, verbal warnings, written warnings, suspensions, and eventually being fired. If you choose to push the point, you will soon discover what they are....

If you are not in a union or have an employment contract than you are an "At Will Employee".

That means you can be fired for any or no reason at all. Your employer has no legal obligation to keep you employed. And on that matter you can quit at any time for a good or no reason at all.

Yes. No one wants to hear that overly-loud garbage. It is surely a violation of local noise ordinances; police could also cite you.

It's obnoxious and disturbing to listen to someone bump their music - no business wants to hear it and he is in the right to tell you, his employee to stop. You need to respect your place of employment.

Yeah, being suspended for being a selfish idiot will ruin your immature day dude.

He should of at least given you a warning. It was harsh of him to suspend.

why do you need to blast them so loud that HE can hear them in the building - seems like a simple request to me if you want to keep your job - or be an ****** and see where it gets you

Yeah. If you are rolling out of his parking lot with your speakers blaring, he can discipline you.

Sure, but why on earth will you put yourself in such a situation?
