I'm 18 years old, a senior this year in high school and i'm unemployed. ive never had a real job before, but for almost a year, ive been filling out applications weekly. i really need to make some money though. honestly, i think its a little ridiculous for an 18 year old without a high school education, and no working experience to be asking for $7.25 an hour. but i cant get experience until i get a job and by law i cant work for less than that or else i would. in the last year, ive only managed to even get 3 interviews, none of which worked out. is there anything i could do to make myself more "hire worthy" or in anyway increase my chances of actually getting a job? i think if i can just get 1 so that next time i wont have to leave that "working experience" section of an application blank, i'll have a chance.

thanks!

I love the attitude that you want to work, number one.

Don't sell yourself short. You're worth more than minimum wage, but you'll probably have to work through that to find a spot where you'll make what you're worth.

It might sound strange, but your best advice is to do something different.

It's a tough job market. If you've been trying for a year and not getting anywhere, do something different. Change it up. If you've been mailing resumes, start walking into every business you can find. Walk down the street and walk into Acme Corp, tell them you're looking for work, then walk into the place next door, and again, and again. Change your approach.

You're the kind of employee people are looking for. If you go out and get to know people on a bit of a personal level, and let them get to know you, you'll have an advantage.

And again, don't sell yourself short. You might have to settle for minimum wage at first, but you'll prove yourself to be more valuable in a short period of time.
