I made the wrong career choice?

I'm studying Accounting in college. Honestly, its a very "smart" career choice for a person who doesn't have a heart but only has a brain.

High demand. High job security. Good pay.

But the problem is that I'm not interested in it. I chose it because it was a smart choice. I thought that if I get money, the fact that I don't like it won't bother me.

I'm in my second year now. During the first year, it didn't bother me that much. But now, I'm starting to hate it. Because I'm doing something I don't like. It's killing me.

There are no "majors" in my college. If I want to change my career, I have to drop the course/programme and start all over with a new one.

The other problem is that I don't know which other career I want to choose. I really want a career which includes a lot of Mathematics. Not engineering though. They don't really use much mathematics in the job, even if they do a lot of math in college.

I would like to become a lecturer, but my country is a veryyy small country. Limited courses. Most people go abroad to study. I can't become a mathematics lecturer here and get a decent pay.

What can I do? I'm just sticking to college right now, just to get a degree. I think it's a good choice to at least get this degree. But I don't want to spend my life as an accountant.

I'm not sure if you're in the U.K. by the way of which you'd spelled "programme," but perhaps you can provide which country that you reside, so that I (and/or others) can look up more relevant info.



With that said, if you're in your last year before meeting the requirements of the accounting degree, then perhaps you may persevere. However, it can be very difficult if the individual has lost interest or realized that the field is not for them. Perhaps the school offers a major in business or management, for instance, both of which may utilize skills having learned as an accounting major.

Get the accounting degree. Get a job as an accountant. While you work that job, take night classes in something you think you will enjoy or save up your good accounting salary for a couple of years and open your self a store or restaurant or a consulting firm. If you are frugal, you will have enough money to either quit your job and start your own business or quit your job and go back to school to study something else.



whatever you choose, remember this . with 'accounting' as your college career people who interview you will think you are precise and organized no matter what job you land in in the future.

I can't really relate to you since i'm still in high school but my mum chose accounting too and she absolutely hated it and realized that in her second year too, she decided to drop that and start a course to become a doctor ( totally different occupations obviously) and she's really happy now. My advice would be to go for what you love because i know the feeling of having to study and in the future have a job based on a subject you hate and you have to go to work everyday so might as well be happy

I am an accountant. If you want to keep going as an accountant, be a CPA or it will not get you anywhere. Good luck. Yes, life is hard, and everybody has to make a choice that they dont want.
