What the interviewer tells you "WE'LL POSSIBLY GIVE YOU A CALL". Does that mean they WON'T call? or will they?

I just had a job interview yesterday and the interviewer told me at the end of our interview is "We'll possibly give you a call". Does that mean that I have a big chance for the job or does it mean that I didnt make it? HELP!!!

Well this one I can answer from my personal experience as latest as 15 days back..

I was being interviewed for a job. My friend had also applied for the same.. At the end of round5, both of us were separately were told taht we'll get back to you..

Next days, both of us got the mail... I had made it :-) , but my friend din't :-(

So moral of the story:

It can happen both ways... They have evaluated u in the absolute sense, but then they also hav to compare ur performance with the other competing candidates..

It could mean that the interviewer did not want to commit and promise anything, and wanted to be 'vague'. They possibly have more candidates to interview, and a decision has not been made.

One option in such cases is to say: When do you plan to make a decision? When would be a good time for me to call you?

That way, you won't be waiting by the phone for their call - and you'll know when to call them.

You have not lost this chance based on the above statement,

and I'd say, if you don't hear from them in a week, feel free to call, to see how things are going, and if they've made a decision.

Good luck!

It depends on the job and how many people have applied for it all together. The higher the pay, the longer you usually have to wait to get an answer. Generally, jobs with higher pay come with bigger responsabilities, so the person making the decision for hiring administers more interviews to better find the right person for the job. Also, it helps if you are white, because let's face it, we are still a very racist country!

It probably means that they have a number of candidates that they are choosing from. If they have another round of interviews or you get the job, they will call you. If you do not hear from them after waiting a decent amount of time, it can't hurt to give them a call or send an email to find out your status.

It means they may call you. Unfortunately many companies HR departments are stretched to the limit and if they do not hire someone they may not call due to time constrains. I really think this is a poor practice but after being on the hiring side for a single position I can understand it. We had 180 applicants interviewed 22 and hired one...and that was just for my department HR had 14 others to support and two of them were always hiring.

I'd say they most likely were just being polite and I hate that, I'd rather be told that I didn't get it rather than have someone say "we'll get back to you", we're grown adults, I think we can handle the truth. You MIGHT have a chance for the job but the way I interpret "possibly" or "might" means no to me so I move on.

Most cases you didnt make it, but they will give you a call only if they could find a more brainy person then you. They just want to keep you as an option and same time not disappoint you.

The operative word is POSSIBLY. Your best best is to email a thank you to the person/people who interviewed you. Tell them how much you appreciated the interview and their time. Don't forget to reiterate how much you would like to work for the company.

It means that no decisions will be made until all the other applicants have been interviewed.

It doesn't sound very promising. Sorry.
