I'm about to get a job that is 56 miles away from my home, I know that the company offers relocation for this position. Am I entitled to get relocation ? A friend told me that by law companies should offer relocation if you live 50 miles away or more from the job. Is this true? Thanks

Doubt it ,,, if the company you work for relocates and require you to move ,, then they will pay relocation costs.. similarly if you were being engaged to a senior position,, head hunted as it were, the company might offer relocation expenses as an inducement to you , As I see it you applied for the job, knowing where it was ,, any suggestion of location problems should have been resolved at an interview .. The company might feel the distance is not sufficient for relocation .. Lots of people travel far further on a daily basis .

You can only get relocation if you are asked by the company to relocate.

A friend told me???

TOTAL rubbish - they are only obliged to offer relocation to existing staff IF the company relocates.

If you take the job - the distance is down to you to deal with

All you can do is ask. Explain to them that this would be a big help for you and that you would be more accessible if you were closer to your job.

There is no harm in asking! It does make sense, why have'nt you already asked??????????
