Sure.  Some do and work fine.  Others are broken down and senile by that age.  It just depends on whether their bodies are healthy and cared for or whether they are broken down and ready to be turned in for a new model.

Of course. Some employment carries a mandatory retirement age, but some does not. Self-employed can work as long as they want to.

They can, although by 80 most people prefer not to.

I am 66 and work 4 days a week for surgeons in a medical office.

I don't HAVE to work, but it keeps me busy and gives me extra spending money.

Can people who are older work, be productive and such? Yes. Not all are created equal. 66 should not be an issue for most in most jobs. I would caution about the trades though, age can screw with ones physical health. As in my case, and I am not old, I can no longer preform the physically required tasks of the two trades that I am trained in.

We had one man where I work (retail) who, after he retired, got bored and came to my company and worked part time until he was 90.

I sure hope so, look at how many politicians are that old.  Old people can still be useful, and their experience can sometimes be valuable, but it's strange that we forcibly retire them from other less important jobs but then let them make all the important decisions.

One of my coworker at the docks has already retired and he still chooses to work. He told me it keeps him in shape since he keeps his body physically active. He intends to work until his body no longer allows it. I think he told me he was in his 70s.

We have 3 employees at our small company who are all over the age of 70.

They still want to work, so I don't see a problem with it.

Sure. You aren't going to see a lot of 90 year old roofers out there, but people can work at a job as long as they are able to.

That depends on the job. If you have any beds that need testing, I'm your man.

Of course. As long as the employer is happy to keep someone on, and as long as the employee is still able to do the work, he (or she) can work as long as he wishes.

In academia, where I work, many professors choose not to retire in their 60s. they are still productive scholars and enjoy teaching.  My husband is over 65 but intends to work as long as he is able.

The other day, I read about a highly-respected medical researcher who is 100 and still working. He is physically frail, but his mind is as sharp as ever. And I've known lawyers who worked into their 80s.
