Question:
Do people in your office e-mail the whole company with dumb things (lunch orders, lost glove, etc)?

I work in an office that employs about 2,000 people in 3 buildings. It amazes me that every single person has access to send from the main distribution list. Everyday I get dumb e-mails from random people about lunch orders being placed, lost items, invites for retirement cakes for people, birthday cakes, parking spot raffles, silly contests taking place, etc.

Now mind you – these e-mails really only apply to one team or department that is sending it. However, the whole distribution list (2,000 employees) are being notified when these e-mails are sent.

These departments also have their own distribution lists so I don’t understand how management gets all these e-mails and says nothing. Does this happen at anyone else’s offices?

Yes and it's maddening. They finally put a stop to it and only allow a few admin people to have access to "All Employee" send outs. If you want to blast an email to everyone now you have to have a supervisor sign off on it. I was getting 75+ emails a day that had NOTHING to do with me or my team...that has been cut down to about 10 :)

It finally changed when a bunch of us started sending out "Good Morning Everybody!" emails, "I have a headache - who has advil?" emails and "I'm going home now" emails at the end of the day - everyone realized how inane the whole thing was!

Yes. This typically happens when companies hire morons! People email the dumbest things. If you find them offensive just forward them to HR. You may see a reduction in those emails! :)

These non job related emails clog the email servers, slow performance and literally cost the company money.

I have had to fire people for inappropriate email usage. Remember that whatever you send in an email can be forwarded and saved indefinitely! Be very careful what you put in an email!

At my activity we've something called b board which comes contained in direction of the e-mail equipment, yet does not hit anybody's inbox. It is going into that is own separate folder. human beings submit nonsense on there approximately stuff on the industry, residences for hire, tickets obtainable, etc...that is like a listserve, i assume. I in no way hassle examining it. that could probable be a intense-high quality option to what's occurring at your workplace. Why do no longer you propose something like that? it would probable be surprisingly lots recieved-i be attentive to human beings here like it, and people who do no longer want to work out it do exactly no longer might desire to hassle clicking on it.
