Question:
Why can't I get a teller job? I meet their requirements. I passed all of their assessment tests.?

I'm a 20-year-old, a college sophomore. I used to work at Macy's as a sales associate, at CVS as a pharmacy technician, and at Marriott hotel as a receptionist. When I applied at Wells Fargo and passed their assessment tests - both for teller and for personal banker positions, I almost immediately received a few emails stating: "After careful consideration, we have determined that, for these positions, other candidates have qualifications more closely matching our requirements". Almost the same thing happened when I applied at Citibank(at least I had a phone interview with them), Suntrust and PNC. The only bank that invited me for a group interview was Bank of America, but still they didn't call me back. I was dressed in a strict business attire and did a good job answering on typical questions. What am I doing wrong? Why don't they hire me? How to get a bank teller job?

It isn't just experience... it also how you answer their questions. You can dress the right way and have plenty of jobs... but they also look at how many jobs you've had. How long you've had them. And you may not have answered their questions the right way.

Don't ask about salary, vacations, anything of "how will this benefit me?"

Don't bash your former employer.

When answering questions, try to leave out as many ummm's and uhhhh's. This shows you're not prepared.

If you were fired from any of your jobs, they may not have liked the answers you gave as to why you were.

Just because you pass the assessments doesn't mean you get hired.

This little site helped me when I couldn't figure out what I was doing wrong:

Are you looking for a part time or full time position? I assume it's only part time since you go to school. If it's for a summer position.... that's still considered part time & may not be worth the effort to train you for such a short period of time.

Try the "savings" institutions. They may be less rigid about requirements. I worked as a PT Teller for my four years in college. It was a great learning experience & fun. I didn't stay with banking simply because anything on the "bank floor" didn't pay well (including management).

Isn't that why people vote? If stupid people are getting elected, what does that say about the people that voted for them? edit: it wasn't my intention to disprove your point. I actually didn't realize that you were making a valid point that needed to be disproved. It seemed to me like you were more interested in making people see things your way. Which really is the same thing stupid politicians do. Also IQ tests are subjective and not necessarily a valid form of measuring someones intelligence.

Maybe its because you've been through 3 jobs at only 20 years of age. They could be looking for someone who is dedicated to working for a long time at once.

Maybe because you are going to school during the day, and they require someone to work during the day.

How is your credit?

Are you carrying credit card balances, pay them off in full each month.

Check your 3 reports once a year at

Annual Credit Report.com https://www.annualcreditreport.com/cra/index.jsp

No credit/debit card required since they are free once a year.

Clean up or delete anything in facebook, myspace, twitter, etc.
