I recently was hired by a small office (husband and wife) insurance agency to work in the sales/selling of property/casualty insurance. They put me on payroll, filled out my tax papers, and asked me about any felonies in the past 7 years (this is what i assume was a background check).

Before I can officially start working with them I have to take a class on insurance and pass a test here in Ohio which they paid for me to do so i can get my license. The classes and test are through Hondros College.

Since I am now hired by them I was wondering if they would have drug tested me before doing so, and will the licensing agency drug test me? I have a friend who went to the same place for Life Insurance testing (which is a higher level of license) and he says they did not test him. From the looks of it, I dont think I will be drug tested but wanted to see if anyone has a similiar job or license and could give me a better idea of if i am safe from being tested.

The Department of Insurance won't. Your employer might. But a mom & pop is least likely to do so.

Hopefully in you will if your employer has half a brain. Too many people out of work for employers to be dealing with junkies.
