There are pros and cons in both places. Japan is really crowded and lots of stuff is expensive there. Exchanging dollars into yen will not make much of a difference. I heard once from an interview that apartments are really costly and Utada once said that the minimal wage there is $100/hr. Of course, probably excluding simple jobs. China is like a big trashcan, literally. The air may not be as clean as it is over here because they've started their EPA a little too late. Of course, the scenery in both places are breath-taking and the cultures are really interesting.

I wouldn't say so. Japanese people's life is not only about animes for sure. Japan has its unique culture. Japan is advanced in techonology and the people are creative so i believe they are open to new things. Personally i would recommend you to live in China. In China you'll be able to experience a much more diversed culture than Japan. There's certainly more to see in China because China is huge and have 56 ethnic minorities. It's developing really fast, the cities on East coast are pretty modern actually. Chinese people are really nice and open to learn new stuff, they are friendly to foreingers as well. Also Chinese is one of the 5 united nation's languages while japanese isn't. Plus you'll benefit more by learning Chinese if you are entering the business field in the future. The answers you are getting from here will be pro-Japan mostly likely so I'd suggest you to post the question in China section again so that you get answers from both sides and make a better decision. *sorry i edited my answer quite a bit* : ) Good luck! : )

I have been to China, Beijing, Xian and Shanghai. The country and natural history is absolutely astounding. But I don't think i would want to live in a communist country. And i have friends that are in the U.S. as citizens now, but were born and partly raised in Japan. They wish the never left. So upon this basis I would pick Japan.

If I had a choice I'd definitely live in Japan. Being from Hawaii, I've always had an affinity for the Japanese culture. They live very structured and ordered lives I think. Honor is a huge factor for them as well. I've made many references to actually moving to Japan to my wife, but of course that notion crashed and burned. Ahhh, maybe one day.

Having lived in both, I would definately say Japan.
They're polar opposites of eachother. Japan is friendly, clean, very organized and orderly, Japanese people are incredibly polite, they haven't sacrificed their culture for development, they're understanding and almost too considerate. Japan is a beautiful, wonderful country and I love it there. Oh, China is the exact opposite of everything I just said.

Japan. My perception is that Japan is much cleaner and far less polluted. Also, China is a communist country, and that just won't do.
